A team of from the Meole Brace-based health club will lead a special warm up for the participants ahead of the walk between the Telford and Shrewsbury Hospitals, which has been organised to raise money for the Lingen Davies Cancer Relief Fund.
The warm up will be led by Bannatyne’s Shaun Smith, Ben Grindley and Steve Lewis.
In addition, the three Fitness Advisors, along with other members of Bannatyne’s team, will offer support and motivation to the walkers throughout the fundraising event.
The challenge will see The Improvement Team from the Princess Royal Hospital and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital walking the 15 miles from Telford to Shrewsbury.
All the money raised will be going towards improving cancer services for the people of Shropshire and Mid-Wales, to provide new buildings and equipment and to create a more comfortable environment for local cancer patients.
The new Cancer and Haematology Centre at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital was funded by £3.2m raised by Lingen Davies. The new appeal is attempting to raise £300,000 in order to further furnish it and buy more equipment.
Alvin Ward General Manager of Bannatyne’s Health Club, said: “We are really pleased to have been asked to help with this charity walk, which will hopefully raise much needed funds to improve the lives of local cancer sufferers.
“We are also keen to support the idea of walking to work – a little extra exercise every day really can make all the difference to a person’s physical health and wellbeing.
“Of course, nurses are usually rushed off their feet, so it’s wonderful to see so many of them taking part in this challenge for such a worthy local cause.â€
The walk will take place between 9am and 3pm, Thursday, May 24, starting from The Princess Royal Hospital.
