A total of seven residential dwellings were searched across Wellington, Arleston, Oakengates, Dawley and Hadley, while warrants were also executed at four business premises. These business premises were in Shifnal, St Georges and Wellington.
The aim of the operation was to target individuals who are believed to be responsible for a number of burglary and theft offences across Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin and approximately 50 uniform and CID officers took part in the operation.
These officers were supported by additional resources from the Dog Handler and Vehicle Examination Units.
Speaking about the operation, Detective Inspector Pete Brophy, who is based at Malinsgate Police Station in Telford, said:
“As a result of the warrants we executed yesterday five men were arrested in relation to a number of offences including suspicion of theft and conspiracy to commit burglary and steal motor vehicles.
“A 38-year-old man has since been charged with burglary, handling stolen goods and possession of cannabis, while three other men – aged 23, 31 and 25 have been bailed pending further enquiries.
“The fifth man arrested has been released without charge.
“During the course of the day a significant amount of property was recovered which we believe may be linked to crime and the seized property is now being examined by officers.
“The property recovered includes stolen cars, stolen car parts and computer items, while we also discovered what we believe to be controlled substances at some of the addresses.
“This operation is likely to continue for some time and it is part of a concerted effort from West Mercia Police to bring offenders responsible for theft and burglary offences to justice.
“It is vital we show the criminal fraternity that we are serious about tackling this issue and I hope yesterday’s warrants also help to reassure residents of Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin that we are determined to catch those individuals whose criminal behaviour continues to blight the lives of ordinary, law-abiding residents of the area we serve.
“Anyone who believes they may have information or concerns about theft or burglary in the area they live in is reminded they should call West Mercia Police on 0300 333 3000 to pass the details to us.
“Alternatively, please remember that information can also be left anonymously by calling independent charity, Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.”
