The auction title read “HAUNTED JUKEBOX 1948 or 1949 Mills 951 Constellation. Please buy this. It’s scaring my family.”
Here’s how the auction read:
Please help my family and I. I purchased this Jukebox about 9 months ago. It was a gift to my wife for her birthday. She said she always wanted a jukebox. Now she just wants me to get rid of it. When I got it, it was not in working order but it lights up very nicely. I just couldn’t get it to play records. It came with some records but some of them were broken. I played with it a few times, and the arm that changes the records came across and broke the rest of the records.
After that I unplugged it and put it in the corner of my garage. I was going to have it looked at by a professional but I just never got around to it. About four weeks ago I decided to give it another try. I had one record left and wanted to get it to play. I worked on it for about 2 hours and checked all the wires and made sure there were no broken pieces of records inside. Still all I could get it to do was light up.
So I unplugged it and put it back in the corner. Later that evening when we were in bed my wife heard a noise, and like all wives, she sent me to investigate. I checked the doors and made sure they were all locked and looked outside and didn’t see anything. Just as I was heading back into the bedroom I heard something. It sounded like music. I went back to the front door and looked out. I didn’t see any cars or lights at the neighbors house. I went to the kids rooms and they were all asleep but I still heard music. I went to the kitchen and it seemed to get a little louder but I still couldn’t tell where it was coming from.
As I approached the door to the garage the music stopped. I looked in the garage and out the windows but didn’t see anything. I went back to bed thinking it was just neighborhood kids or a vehicle or something.
This happened again two nights later. Again I heard music and again it seemed to be coming from the kitchen area. And again when I approached the garage door, IT STOPPED. This time I went into the garage and looked around everywhere. I even looked at the jukebox and it was still unplugged. I went through a box with my kids toys and couldn’t find any thing that played music. I went back inside and told my wife and she said it was probably just the neighbours. The next night my wife and I were watching a movie in the living room. During the movie my wife told me to pause it so she could go get a drink. When I paused the movie we both heard it. It sounded like an old Blues song with lots of trumpets. We both jumped up and went to the kitchen. And just like the previous times as we got close to the garage door it stopped suddenly.
We both went out to investigate and still could not find an explanation. The jukebox was still unplugged and there was nothing else that played music in the garage. Since that night it has happened four more times and one of our children has even heard it while playing in the living room. It only seems to happen at night. I am not sure what the cause of this strange old music is but my Wife and kids are sure it’s the Jukebox.
About the jukebox: It is a Mills Industries Constellation 951. It was made in 1948 or 1949. It does light up when plugged in and there are not any parts missing as far as I can tell. It is missing a piece of glass on the front but I have a new piece to put in. The jukebox plays 10″ 78 rpm records. It’s also a bargain because you get six plays for a quarter. Sometimes you even get a free song.

The outside is in pretty good shape for a sixty year old jukebox. It’s what is inside that we don’t like. I can’t explain what has been happening but I don’t know if it can be explained. All I know is there is old music coming from my garage and I need to make it stop. I don’t know the history of this jukebox but in sixty years it could have been in alot of different, or even strange places. In closing I just want to say that this is really what happened. If you like haunted stuff then you won’t be disappointed.
If you don’t like haunted stuff but are curious, I think you’ll be o.k. because it only seems to want to play music. If you are a collector or someone who knows how to fix these things maybe you can figure it out, or maybe not. If you are looking for a birthday present for your wife I would pass this one up.
All I hope for is to get enough money to buy her a new birthday present and to get my kids to sleep in their own room again. Also if you are the high bidder, please arrange to pick up or have it shipped as soon as possible. Thanks for looking and Happy Bidding……
