Winners of the new cancer and haematology centre naming competition revealed

More than 100 suggestions were received after The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust launched the competition to name the new £5 million centre, as well as the two areas within it.

The building, which is currently under construction, will be called “The Lingen Davies Centre”. The Trust also asked people to suggest names for the haematology department and oncology department, which will now be called “The O’Connor Haematology Suite” and “Oncology Suite” respectively. These were the most popular suggestions from all of the entries the Trust received.

In additional to helping the Trust to name the new building there was an art competition, with winning entries to be displayed in the centre. Entries were submitted in two categories – skyscape and landscape.

More than 90 entries were received and now a shortlist of 27 creations has been drawn up. These entries will soon make up an exhibition open to the public, details of which will be advertised in the coming weeks.

The Trust would once again like to thank everyone for their support and for taking the time to enter these competitions.

Fundraising staff are now turning their attentions to raising money to furnish and equip the new building. If anyone would like further information or can help the Lingen Davies Cancer Centre Appeal please contact 01743 492396.
