A comprehensive series of infrastructure projects reached completion this year, focused on enhancing road safety, expanding active travel options, and supporting sustainable growth for both residents and visitors.

From major resurfacing works at critical junctions to the upgrading of cycleways and pedestrian pathways, the local authority has prioritised creating a more accessible and connected borough. Key highlights from the 2025 programme included the successful resurfacing of the Greyhound Roundabout and ongoing strategic improvements in Halesfield. These initiatives form part of a wider commitment to a “cleaner and greener” Telford through the promotion of sustainable travel.

Councillor Richard Overton, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Highways, Housing and Enforcement, said: “2025 has been another successful year for our infrastructure improvements across Telford and Wrekin.

“Telford & Wrekin Council has achieved a 23 per cent reduction in pothole reports, reflecting the success of our proactive maintenance strategy. This year, we repaired 1,872 potholes, ensuring safer journeys for residents. Fewer reports mean fewer potholes overall – proof that our investment in prevention and timely repairs is paying off.”

“These upgrades, achieved through a coordinated approach, reflect our dedication to making Telford safer, greener, and more connected.

“We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished this year and look forward to building on this momentum in the years ahead.”

The borough’s performance has been recognised on a national level, with Telford & Wrekin Council named as one of the top eight local authorities in the country for reducing potholes over the last four years. Furthermore, the council has maintained its top-tier ranking in the 2025 National Highways and Transport (NHT) survey, an accolade it has held for several consecutive years. These achievements come alongside the council’s continued commitment to maintaining the lowest Council Tax rate in the Midlands.

Looking ahead to 2026, the local authority has already outlined an ambitious schedule of further improvements. Future projects include the installation of a new pedestrian crossing on Finger Road in Dawley and essential repairs to the Coalmoor Road retaining wall near Little Wenlock. Major infrastructure upgrades are also planned for Wellington, specifically targeting the Apley and Haybridge roundabouts to improve traffic flow and safety.
