Fire crews rescue person from river embankment in Craven Arms

Firefighters successfully rescued a person from the embankment of the River Onny in Craven Arms this afternoon following a swift water rescue operation.

The incident began at 1.45 pm on Monday, 15 December 2025, when the Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) Fire Control received a call reporting a Water Rescue incident in the area.

Rapid Response

A significant fire service presence was mobilised, with three fire appliances dispatched to the scene. These units, which included an Incident Command Unit, were sent from Clun, Craven Arms, Shrewsbury, and the Tweedale station. An Operations Officer also attended the incident to coordinate the rescue effort.

The Land Ambulance Service was also in attendance, ready to provide medical assistance.

Operation Success

Using specialist water rescue equipment, including life jackets and throw lines, fire crews managed to bring the person to safety from the river’s embankment.

The operation was concluded relatively quickly, with the “stop message,” confirming that the incident was under control and crews were beginning to stand down, being received at 2.23 pm – less than an hour after the initial alarm was raised.
