A 25-year-old woman has been sentenced to 13 months in prison, suspended for two years, after her dog attacked a police officer in Wem.

Jade Davies of Woodlands Park Road, Birmingham, pleaded guilty to being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control and causing injury.
In addition to the suspended sentence, Davies was ordered at Shrewsbury Crown Court to complete a 20-day rehabilitation order and 80 hours of unpaid work. The court also issued a destruction order for the dog, a Pit Bull, a breed prohibited in the UK.
The incident occurred in March 2024 at a house in Isherwoods Way, Wem. While Davies was present with the dog, it bit a West Mercia Police officer on the forearm and leg, causing a deep laceration. The officer has since made a full recovery.
PC Jack Harper stated, “Any incident involving a dog injuring someone is unacceptable. We have a duty to protect the public and ensure the safety of our communities. This case highlights the potential harm that can arise and demonstrates our commitment to bringing offenders to justice.
“We continue to collaborate with various partners to educate the public about the risks associated with certain dog breeds. Responsible dog ownership is crucial for everyone’s safety, and we strive to minimize the risks to the public.”
