The eagerly anticipated Blue Square Bet Premier clash between AFC Telford Utd and Luton Town has been postponed after a request by the Gold Command of West Mercia Police.

AFC Telford Utd, Luton Town and the Football Conference were left with little option but to agree with the request.

AFC Telford Utd said with the greatest sincerity, we apologise unreservedly for any inconvenience this has caused and we will issue an announcement as soon as we can with regards to the rearranged fixture and details regarding tickets purchased for the event.

The game has already been put back from a 3pm kick off to 7.45pm due to a planned EDL march in Wellington earlier in the day.

Telford Police Chief Speaks On Football Postponement
Superintendent Gary Higgins, Territorial Policing Commander in Telford, has today given his thoughts on the postponement of the AFC Telford United V Luton Town football match on Saturday 13 August.

“We would like to apologise to genuine football fans for any inconvenience caused but the events of the last few days have left us with little option but to request the postponement of Saturday’s match.

“West Mercia Police are currently supporting national, as well as local operations, and with that in mind we are grateful to AFC Telford and the Football Conference for their understanding in accepting our request.

“In normal circumstances we would have no wish to interfere with AFC Telford’s fixture list but I hope people understand that current events, both locally and nationally, simply cannot be classed as ‘normal circumstances’.”
