Brothers, Elliott and Kyle Bennett from Leegomery in Telford attended Telford & Wrekin Council’s Football Development Courses during school holidays.

The older of the two brothers, Elliott Bennett, has just secured a dream £1.5 million move to the Premiership with newly promoted Norwich City whilst Kyle has moved again this season joining Doncaster Rovers in League 1.

The pairs’ success builds on the early foundation the brother’s received from Telford & Wrekin Council’s Football Development Course.

The council course, supported by Furrows of Telford, includes a variety of activities throughout the year, all of which are supervised by fully qualified FA coaches.

This summer, budding footballers can join in a range of courses that concentrate on having fun whilst building team awareness, technical skills, speed and agility.

Those involved in the summer programme will also have the chance to visit the new Wembley Stadium. A full timetable of the Summer Football Course can be found by visiting www.telford.gov.uk/footballdevelopment.

Cabinet Member for Leisure and Well-being, Arnold England, said: “The Bennett brother’s success demonstrates the solid foundation of the Council’s Football Development Course.

“The course is specially tailored for children of all abilities from 5 to 15 years old and gives all involved the chance to learn new skills whilst having fun.

“Parents and friends are welcome to watch the play offs and finals and all coaches are qualified to a minimum of FA Level 2 Standard. The course supports the council’s goal to improve the health and well being of everyone across the borough.”

Norwich City footballer, Elliott Bennett, said: “Telford & Wrekin Council holiday football coaching courses were an excellent way to spend school holidays. You could play all day with your mates in a safe and fun environment. Any child who wants to get better make friends and have a good time should definitely go to the course. It helped me improve my game and most of all I enjoyed playing football everyday.”

Doncaster Rover player Kyle Bennett, said: “The school holiday football courses with Telford & Wrekin Council were great. The techniques certainly helped me when I joined Wolves Academy. I would recommend these courses to any children who either want to improve their football ability or just want to have fun.”

Telford & Wrekin Council’s Football development course started in 1995.

After spending ten years at Wolves, Kyle Bennett joined Bury FC helping them gain promotion from League 2 to League 1. Elliott joined Brighton & Hove Albion who also gained promotion from League 2 to the championship last season.

Other players who have graduated to the professional game include Adam Proudlock, formerly with Wolves & Sheffield Wednesday and now with AFC Telford United, Lee Collins with Port Vale in League 2 and Danny Guthrie with Premier league club Newcastle United.
