Royal Shrewsbury Hospital meets essential standards for dignity and nutrition

Overall the Care Quality Commission found that the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital was meeting both of the essential standards of quality they reviewed, but they recommended improvements in order to maintain this.

The Care Quality Commission undertook this Inspection at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in Wards 27 and 28 as part of their national review into how well older people are treated during their hospital stay.

The inspection found that “overall people said staff involved them in their care, treatment and support and that their privacy and dignity is respected. Most people also said that staff call them by their preferred form of address and respond to their needs quickly. They said that staff are kind and explain what they are doing.”

The inspection also found that “people said they are offered a good choice of food but this is not always the option they receive. Most people told felt their nutritional needs and dietary preferences were well met.”

As well as highlighting positive feedback, the report also identified areas where the hospital was not always getting it right, and made recommendations to ensure that the hospital continues to meet essential standards.
