The team from PCB Solicitors first took up the challenge in 2007, after their workmate, Julie Tipton, was diagnosed with the disease in 2006.
Now, with Julie about to mark five years free of cancer in June, her colleagues are limbering up for their fourth assault on the charity fundraising event, in which they’ll also be supporting another workmate with breast cancer and a former colleague who is battling bowel cancer.
Julie, who is the firm’s archivist and marketing assistant, said: “It meant a lot to me when my colleagues at PCB first said they were going to take up the challenge of a 5k run in support of my fight with cancer, back in 2007. It’s a real boost and a reminder of the backing that’s there for you.

“Five years on from that first race it’s great for me that I’ll be celebrating remaining clear of cancer, but at the same time we have another workmate, and a former colleague, who are now having battles of their own with the disease, and that’s why we have to carry on with this very important fundraising.â€
Runners will be coming from PCB’s Shrewsbury Business Park headquarters, as well as the firm’s offices around the county.
PCB managing partner, Rachael Hughes, said: “We are very proud of all the fundraising our staff do throughout each year, which includes a significant contribution to the WillAid initiative, but their participation in this race has a particularly personal meaning for all of us and myself and the other partners wish them all the best for Sunday. We might need some ice packs on hand in the office on Monday though…â€
The Race for Life takes part at the Agricultural Showground in Shrewsbury on Sunday, May 22, as part of a series of events being held throughout the UK.
