A body found in the River Severn in Shrewsbury was today confirmed as missing man Ashley Atkins.

Mr Atkins body was recovered from the water on Wednesday afternoon following a search of the river by specialist divers.

It follows an incident that took place at around 2am on Tuesday when a vehicle went into the River Severn at Frankwell Quay.

West Mercia Police says that investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.

The matter has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) as is normal procedure when a person dies who has been in recent contact with the police.
