Those with five stars include Smiley Faces Day Nursery in Wellington, Honeybuns @ Ercall Day Nursery, Leegomery and Coverage Care at Farcroft care home in Wellington.

Premises with the highest standards in food hygiene and safety, structure and confidence in management get five stars, while those with the lowest are awarded zero stars. All premises scoring two stars or above comply with the law.

Any star rating can be withdrawn if a business’s standards are found to have dropped at a later inspection. If a business improves they have the ability to let customers know through the ‘right to reply’ feature on the website (this is monitored).

Any business where an inspection has yet to take place will be clearly marked NYR (not yet rated) on the website to help consumers know if a business has been inspected or not.

The website www.telford.gov.uk/scoresonthedoors was launched on 1 June 2008 with the aim of helping consumers to make an informed choice about where they eat and buy food in Telford and Wrekin.

Food businesses in the borough, including pubs, restaurants, take-aways, supermarkets, private caterers, care homes and school kitchens are inspected by Telford & Wrekin Council’s Environmental Health Officers and then given a star rating which is published on the website or available by texting sotd to 60060.

Businesses can choose to display their Scores on the Doors certificate on their premises if they wish. So look out for these, because if a premise has a high rating they are sure to display it!

Ian Mercer, Public Protection Manager, said: “Scores on the Doors is a fantastic tool that local people, as well as visitors to the area, can use to ensure an educated decision on where they eat and buy food from.

“This has become a very well used online facility and has most definitely encouraged food business owners to drive up standards and that is only a good thing.”
