The 18-year-old woman was driving a white Ford Focus when the incident happened at around 10.45pm on Sunday.
She was sat waiting at traffic lights where Leegate Avenue adjoins Haybridge Road, with a male friend as a passenger, when two men approached the vehicle from behind.
One of the men struck the rear driver’s side door before opening the driver’s door. The female driver managed to close the door and lock it. A second man approached the passenger’s side door and opened it but the male passenger managed to close the door.
The offender who stood at the driver’s side window then smashed the driver’s window with his fist. At this point the traffic lights changed and the female driver was able to drive away.
A Telford Police spokeswoman said: “The offenders were dressed in dark clothing and wore balaclavas and gloves.
“The driver and the passenger were extremely upset and shaken by what had happened and the driver suffered injuries to her arms and back as a result of the window being smashed.
“We are eager to trace other motorists who were in the area at the time and saw what happened.
“If you were driving past and saw the white Ford Focus at the lights with two men standing by the vehicle acting suspiciously, then please come forward and speak to us.â€
