After a successful individual event two weeks ago, 34 shooters took part in the Shrewsbury & District Bell Target Doubles competition at Harlescott Social Club.

The shooters attending were split into two groups depending on their averages this season and then randomly drawn out of a hat. One from the top half with a shooter from the bottom half pairing up to provide 17 teams battling it out for the trophy.
On the night, there were two “possibles” with Stuart and Rich Morgan each getting their seven shots in the five-score zone. Rich finished with a 37.5 missing out on a maximum score by a single point whilst Stuart ended with a 36.0.
But the night wasn’t about individual scores but teamwork and top scoring pair recorded a superb 71.5 to take the trophy. Jack Francis and John Davies, both from the Breidden team shot well with youngster Jack smashing in a 35.5 whilst veteran John helped their cause by hitting a 36.0. Each of them beating their own averages by 1 point for Francis and 3 points for Davies. Jack Francis won the same competition last year and proves to the rest of the league that even at his age he’s a force to be reckoned with.
The randomly selected duo of Sara Davies from Breidden and Claire Bithell from Condover came a very close second with a fantastic 70.0 points. Each scored a marvellous 35.0 to take the second-place medals and the satisfaction of being the leading women’s team.
Bronze medal position was taken by Stuart Morgan from Condover team and Steve Forrester from the Telepost squad. Stuart’s top score of the night 37.5 paired with Steve’s 32 aggregated to give them a 69.5. This was a tie with another pair but Stu & Steve won the place on countback. This is when a draw occurs and you start from their last shot and work backwards. The first one to have a higher score on the single shots wins.
It was a quality evening hosted by the Harlescott Social Club A & B teams and we now look forward to the Christmas themed Turkey Shoot at the Unison Club next Tuesday before going into the Christmas break.
