Police appeal for witnesses after woman in her 60s is sexually assaulted in Wellington

Police in Telford are appealing for witnesses or information after a woman was sexually assaulted in Wellington yesterday.

The incident happened at around 12.15pm, as the woman in her 60s was walking on the footpath along Whitchurch Drive in the direction of Leegomery.

As she walked through an underpass below Whitchurch Drive, an unknown man approached her from behind and placed his hand across her mouth. He then touched her inappropriately over her clothes.

The victim called out for her partner and the suspect then left along the footpath in the direction of Hadley.

The offender is described as a white man, approximately 5′ 9″ tall and of a medium build. He was believed to be wearing dark clothes and a dark baseball cap with a beige motif.

Det Sgt Dafydd Jones said: “This was a frightening incident for the victim and we take offences of this nature very seriously.

“We are carrying out a number of enquiries and reassurance patrols within the local area, and I would urge anyone who has any information about the incident to please get in touch by calling 101, quoting incident number 374S of 2 October 2016.”
