It was no ordinary evening at Blists Hill Victorian Town on Saturday as a dark force descended and zombies invaded.

But before you start to panic and put yourself on lockdown, there was nothing to fear, as it was all in aid of charity.

Around 300 people were there to take part in a unique event called ‘The Hungry Games: Zombie Apocalypse Experience’.

Brave teams got to wonder around the Victorian town trying to avoid around 45 zombies while finding villagers who held clues to save the world and gain valuable game points.

The event was organised and in aid of Compton Hospice, a charity providing care and support for families living with incurable illnesses across Wolverhampton, Walsall, Dudley, Sandwell, South Staffordshire and East Shropshire, with around £4,000 being raised from the evening.

The hair raising night, was supported by a cast of budding actors who were performing art students from Dudley college who played their part in turning Blists Hill into a living horror movie!

Grace Lee, member of the fundraising team at Compton Hospice, said: “We were really pleased with how well the event went, which is the second time we have held a zombie themed evening, but the first time using the setting of Blists Hill Victorian Town, who were fantastic and such helpful hosts.

“We wanted to thank everyone for braving the elements and taking part, along with hopefully having a fun evening, participants have also helped raise a huge amount of money to help those with incurable illnesses across the area to have a more comfortable life. We also wanted to extend our thanks to all the volunteers and cast from Dudley College.”

The fundraising team at Compton Hospice have said they received some great feedback from participants and also ideas on how to improve future type events.
