Shrewsbury still have Dagnell ambitions according to reports

Sources suggest that Micky Mellon would still like to land long term target Chris Dagnell; as Mark Halstead moves closer to signing a new deal.

The former Rochdale and Tranmere striker is currently going through a barren spell with Scottish side Hibernian; where he has failed to find the net in 15 games.

One of Neil Lennon’s tasks as new Hibs manager could be to release Dagnell; when the former returns from his punditry duties with the BBC.

Shrewsbury are believed to be interested in securing another striker, following the capture of AJ Leitch-Smith from Port Vale.

They released Jean Louis Akpa-Akpro, who is strongly being linked with a move to League Two Plymouth. Scott Vernon was also released, whilst there are doubts over the futures of James Collins and Tyrone Barnett.

Dagnell, 30, has extensive experience in the football league. He is noted for his spell at Rochdale, where he fired 60 goals in 176 appearances for the side.

He also helped Leyton Orient to the League Two play-off final in 2013; scoring 20 times in 64 matches for the London outfit.

In total, Dagnell has scored 118 goals in 450 games for Tranmere, Rochdale, Scunthorpe, Barnsley, Bradford, Coventry, Leyton Orient, Kerala Blasters and Hibs.

Meanwhile, Mark Halstead looks likely to be the third goalkeeper to sign a new deal with Town.

The former Blackpool stopper, has been the subject of interest from Cambridge, but appears near to join Jayson Leutwiler and Callum Burton in committing their futures to the club.
