Shrewsbury boss Micky Mellon has lauded the returning Andy Mangan – as the striker notched the winner in the 3rd round of the FA Cup on his second debut.

Shrewsbury gave the best possible answer to the doubters, after recovering from the 7-1 thumping against Chesterfield – to dispatch Championship Cardiff.

Andy Mangan was the hero of the day; scoring the winner to book his sides place in the 4th round of the FA Cup.

Shrews boss Micky Mellon, spoke admirably about his ‘new’ signing, and praised his performance in the victory over the side from the Welsh capital.

He said: “We showed a huge amount of character to come to a club like Cardiff and get a result.

“I’ve signed Andy three times so you can say I’m pretty keen on him.

“He’s a great player and someone who should have played a lot more games at a higher level.

“It was tough to let him go in the summer, this club (Shrewsbury) has had some tough times and this is the fourth time I’ve had to rebuild the team.”

Meanwhile, Micky Mellon has expressed his hope that receive a home tie against Manchester United in the next round – whilst match winner Mangan wants to face his boyhood club Liverpool.

The draw for the 4th round of the FA Cup, takes place tonight during The One Show on BBC 1 at 7:15pm.
