A 42-year-old man from Shrewsbury has been arrested on suspicion of firearms offences following an incident in the Sundorne area of the town.
The man was arrested following an operation involving armed officers, police negotiators and unarmed officers in a wooded area behind Shrewsbury Sports Village.
Police say no shots were fired and the incident was contained and safely concluded.
Superintendent David McWilliam said: “The incident was dealt with very professionally and we have tried to minimise disruption to the wider local community. Officers remain at the scene and will be providing reassurance to the local community that there is no continuing threat.”
Police were called to the area at around 10am, they could be seen guarding all entrances to what is known locally as the 7 Pitches playing fields. A police car also blocked off the lane towards Pimley Manor.
A large number of police cars were parked in the Shrewsbury Sports Village car park, people were advised to stay away from the area whilst the incident took place.
The area is popular with dog walkers and children who use facilities at the playing fields.
