The House Of The Rising Sun restaurant in Shrewsbury is this week celebrating its second anniversary with three nights of charity fundraising.

On the nights of Tuesday 20th, Wednesday 21st and Thursday 22nd October, guests will be asked to comment on each dish, individually price what they think each is worth based on flavour, presentation and quality of ingredients, and then just pay what they think in total. Whatever the House Of The Rising Sun make over and above their normal prices will donate to the Lingen Davies Cancer Fund.

Thought to be a first in the region, the series of events called ‘Say&Pay what you think’ will be held in their opulent upstairs restaurant where they will offer their innovative ‘Wave’ menu – which has been popular since being created by head chef Sam Butler who recently achieved the accreditation of one of the UK’s Top 10 Sushi chefs at the `UK heat of the Global Sushi Challenge’.

The restaurant is renowned for their ‘Pan Asian’ cuisine using locally sourced and speciality ingredients, however on these charity nights the guests will be treated to additional flavours that will challenge their senses as well as their perceptions of value.

Manager James Cross commented “We cant believe its been two years since we opened House Of The Rising Sun – It was a new venture and a real first for the region when we opened in October 2013, and we didn’t know what sort of feedback we would receive, but the support of our customers over the past two years has been phenomenal – the business has evolved massively following on-going positive feedback.

“We recently carried out a detailed survey of our customers on our food, service, atmosphere and the events we host, and the comments were overwhelmingly positive – with over 150 respondents to date – one of the continuing themes was our focus on premium ingredients and innovative dishes, so we thought we would create a series of events that showcase both of those elements, experimenting with dishes from our new menus which we launch next week, coupled with raising money for a very worthy local charity Lingen Davies Cancer Fund who are committed to improving cancer services for the relief of cancer patients in Shropshire and Mid Wales, through the provision of specialist equipment and buildings which we support.”

Head Chef Sam Butler added “Reaching the finals of the UK Global Sushi Challenge earlier this month was a real boost to our focus on fresh quality ingredients which we have stayed true to since our launch.

“The anniversary events we have launched for this week are a bit of a thank you to our customers for their on-going support, with support from our local suppliers, as well as a re-assurance that we will continue to evolve with our customers needs.”
