Kate Hogwood, Director of Shropshire Music Trust said: “We’ve kept tickets to a moderate £14, and there are FREE Young People Concert Tickets (8-22 years) courtesy of the Cavatina Chamber Music Trust (taking Chamber Music to Young People and Young People to Chamber Music) for this superb Czech/Late Romantic Series which is being held in the county’s finest chamber music venues, with an opportunity to meet the artists after each concert.
We welcome back the Wihan following the huge success of their Beethoven Quartet cycle in Shropshire last season, with this further series featuring the wonderful and evocative quartets of their fellow countrymen – Janacek, Smetana and Dvorak alongside three Mendelssohn quartets. Described by International Record Review as ‘one of the best quartets in the world’ the Wihan have developed an outstanding reputation for the interpretation of their native Czech repertoire and these are proving to be extraordinary and ‘not to be missed’ concerts.
In the fourth and final concert we are delighted to welcome back the young Carducci Quartet following their successful series here two years ago who join with the Wihan for a wonderful climax including two of the most popular chamber works in the string repertoire: Mendelssohn’s Octet and Dvorak’s ‘American’ Quartet. The two quartets are old friends and bring a very special quality to their ensemble playingâ€.
