Joe Graham is convinced The Tigers can emulate their double-winning success in the English Premier League next season – and even win a triple crown of major trophies.

The 24-year-old joined the reigning champions from Manchester Phoenix last week, following spells with Peterborough Phantoms and Guildford Flames.

Graham’s hard-working attitude was a key attraction for Tigers Head Coach Tom Watkins, who is famous for instilling a gritty nature into his teams.

And the former GB Under-20s defenceman is keen to get started on Telford’s title defence.

He said: “It will definitely be hard next season, with other teams in the league getting stronger all the time, but so are The Tigers. As the team to beat, we need to grit our teeth and take each team as they come.

“I have no doubt that we can win the double, if not more, with the team we’ll have next season.

“Having Tom Watkins as Head Coach made my decision very easy. I have known him for a long time and he’s always been a true professional, so it will be a great experience.”

A willingness to drop the gloves is expected to make Graham a big favourite with Tigers fans – although he won’t be taking on an enforcer-type role.

“I don’t put a huge amount of focus on the physical side of my game and I try to keep a level head,” he said.

“I am very much a team person, so if something is needed to be done for the team, or the guy next to me, then I’ll do it. That could be anything from a hit to blocking shots, or even a fight every now and then.”

The 2014 EPL champion is also looking forward to joining a side that was notable for it’s tight-knit nature last season – and making improvements to his own game.

Graham added: “I have played ice hockey all my life, so I find it easy to get on with everyone. But it does help when I know most of the guys as well.

“I was consistent in defence last season, but in doing that I didn’t get as many points as I would have liked. I want to combine the two more as an all-round player and become an important part of The Tigers squad.”
