AFC Telford Utd V Woking

Two late goals sink Telford United as the Bucks drift 14 points off the safety mark with 6th defeat in last 8.

Despite Rod McDonald’s 3rd goal of the season from the Telford defence, Telford couldn’t hold onto the point thanks to two goals in the 81st and 86th minutes respectively.

Scott Rendell was on target for the hosts in the early in the 2nd half from the penalty spot, while Kevin Betsy and Guiseppe Sole both found the Telford net late in the game.

Freddy Hall picked up where he left off last weekend with a tremendous save in the opening 10 minutes.

Position then began to shift in Telford’s favour, but as the problem has been all season, not enough was created from that possession.

The keen to impress Bradley Reid tested Jake Cole in goal as the midfielder looks to stamp himself permanently on the starting XI.

The 2nd period couldn’t have started much worse for Telford when fan favourite Godfrey Poku brought down John Goddard. Rendell made no mistake from the spot, slotting home his 18th of an impressive season.

Tony Gray and Reid were both off target shortly after the Bucks fell behind, while Gray also saw an effort from inside the box blocked for a corner.

The end-to-end action resulted in a Telford leveller on 64 minutes when Sean Clancy’s corner was nodded in by McDonald who rose above everyone in the box.

The contests free-flowing action came to a sudden halt after the equaliser with Woking taking charge of a scrappy period of play.

Sole’s free kick was a warning sign on 80 minutes, and the Bucks paid for sitting deep when McDonald was caught in possession and Betsy finished cooly.

Then as Telford went in search of another equaliser they were caught out on the break, Ventre unable to cut out a lovely through ball and Sole made no mistake when one-on-one with Hall.

Woking keep alive their hopes of a place in the playoffs alive while Telford need nothing short of a miracle to keep themselves in the Conference Premier with 24 points available and 14 points adrift. In fact the Bucks could be relegated as early as Tuesday 24th March.

Next up however is a home game against Gateshead Town who, Telford were beaten 4-1 by last September.
